Silchar: Karimganj District Administration has chosen a plot of land in Karimanj City for the construction of colleges and medical hospitals, the state government has told the Assembly.
“The Ministry of Health has formed a Committee for Medical College problems.
The Committee will examine land and submit a report to the state government.
The Committee will immediately submit a report,” Minister of Health Assam Keshab Mahanta said this in response to the written writing of Karimanj Mla Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha about this problem.
Purkayastha made a query after the health secretary had sent a letter to the Karimganj deputy commissioner about whether there was progress in the process.
In the letter, the Health Secretary has instructed Karimanj DC to choose a plot for medical colleges within 10 km of the district head office and send land documents to the state government within a week.
Purkayastha questioned whether the deputy commissioner had chosen the plot in accordance with the instructions of the Secretary of Health and whether there were proposals sent to the department on behalf of the district administration to determine the land.
MLA then asks about the latest position of the project from the Minister of Health and if necessary to follow the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines to establish this facility within 10 km of a civil hospital.
In response, Manganta said that according to the NMC guidelines, 20 hectares of land were needed to establish universities and medical hospitals.
However, in special cases and in the east case, it is possible to build medical colleges if there are two plots of 10 hectares each.
In that case, the plot needs to be within 10 km of each other.
Mahanta further said, the health secretary had sent a letter to DC to choose a plot of land for medical colleges and in response, DC had made a choice and sent a proposal to the department.
