Thane: The day after five lives lost in the Mudslide Kalwa, Thane Corporation has claimed to have repeatedly warned the Ministry of Forestry, which has land where vegetable structures are built, about the dangers that will occur during the rainy season.
Civil officials said the possibility of landslides was discussed at a meeting of the rainy season’s safety review held by the City of Thane Commissioner in May, after which reminders were also issued for the Ministry of Forestry in June advising them to evacuate the population from a dangerous location if needed.
“We told the forestry department to survey and take the right action in eliminating or transferring the population because there was a possibility of landslides.
When the land belonged to the forest, we could not take action but had offered our energy during the drive.
We also installed a warner that warned Residents of the danger will occur, “Confirmed Sachin Borse, Assistant Commissioner City in Kalwa Ward.
After the incident, officials said the forestry department had plans to conduct surveys of all dangerous spots along stretching and taking appropriate action.
Forest officials cannot be contacted for their comments.
Activists, however, said that the joint responsibility of the authorities as the majority of houses here have an electrical and water connection that signaled Nexus with the authorities.
“How could someone get so many facilities in illegal construction? I have demanded actions against government officials who play a role in this encroachment to develop and also McOCa slapped with land mafia,” said Praveen Darekar, BJP Neta and opposition leader in the Legislative Council.
