Kolkata: Head of Secretary Bengal H K Dwivedi has asked South DM 24 parganas, planathan, to complete a plot of 3,000 hectares in Bhangar for establishing a second airport to reduce congestion in Dum Dum.
State officials said that for a long time, there had been a request for the second airport close to the city and scouting for land for the project.
Previously, officials had suggested a reliable airport as the second state airport.
But the idea was rejected since traveling from the city to reliably more than three hours.
The new airport will have at least two runways, 3 km respectively, 300m space among them for a wide body plane to operate simultaneously.
The Chief Secretary also held a meeting with DM Malda, South Dinajpur and Cooch Behar to take stock of airports in the districts of these districts because the country is a refusal facility at these airports to make it fully functional so that the load from Bagdogra airport can also do it reduced.
The state government also plans to make Functional Airport Purulia.
However, an official said that getting a large plot might be difficult at Bhangar, given the anti-land liberation movement in January 2017 during the formation of the Power Grid Corporation project.
“We must be very careful while dealing with land acquisition,” said the official.
