Melbourne: Former Australian Skipper Ricky Ponting on Saturday said that the resignation of Justin Langer as head coach marked a sad day for Australian cricket.
Cricket Australia on Saturday accepted the resignation of Justin Langer’s team head.
“Justin was offered a short-term extension for his current contract, which unfortunately he chose not to accept,” said the official release of the Australian Kricket.
“This is a very sad day as far as Australian cricket and if you look back, it is really poor six months overall by the way that Australia’s Cricket has handled some of the better people in Australian Cricket – Justin Langer and Team Paine – and I think it’s almost embarrassing as they handle the two cases, “Ponting told ABC Radio, as reported by Espncricinfo.
“He should not have full support from the council.

The contract extension offered to Justin is the result of a thorough review process that evaluates many factors including future team requirements and upcoming match schedules.
This extension was approved by the CA Board and was put in Justin last night.
It includes the opportunity to defend the T20 World Cup title in Australia at the end of this year.
“It looks like a very strange time for a coach to leave.
