Latent cancer can be treated: Study

Written by news2in

Bhubaneswar: Research by the team at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center which covers a doctoral fellow doctoral from Odisha has found that when cells from primary breast cancer sites spread to the brain, they behave differently in different patients and this can be used for a variety of care strategies Instead of the same regimen for all.
The findings of pre-clinical studies in the US have been published in recent journal cell metabolism.
Pravlat Kumar Parida, a post-doctoral friend in the Pathology Department, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, is the first writer of this study led by Assistant Professor Srinivas Malladi.
Parida says most cells from the breast cancer site perish while spreading to the brain.
Some survival can start metastasis (secondary cancer) that can be detected along with primary tumors and called synchronous metastases.
After the diagnosis and treatment with current therapy, several cells remained latent for months for years before triggering tumor growth was very late and called metastasis metachronous.
At present, the same treatment is offered to all types of breast cancer patients with brain metastases including synchronous, latent or metachronous.
New studies suggest curative care options for all three metastases.
This study said the recurrence of the metastastatic brain often occurs in breast cancer patients because latent cells that survive that require months or years of growing.
They can be treated before they relapse.
The new study has found the dependence of the metabolism of HER2 cells (proteins that help breast cancer cells grow rapidly) with a variety of potential metastasis.
Breast cancer cells with a higher level of HER2 than normal are called HER2-positive.
