Launch Radio Channels for Children: Mnm

Chennai: MNM President Kamal Haasan on Tuesday asked the Tamil Nadu government to launch radio channels exclusively for education.
Health experts have warned problems to students because of staring at the screen and using headphones for hours, he said.
Such steps – both radio stations or FM channels, can help reduce screen time and also help overcome the problem of lack of connectivity, laptops and smartphones facing students while attending a pandemic.
This can be done on the lines of exclusive television channels for education ‘kalvitv’ and will benefit students in a big way, he said.
Kamal quotes the initiative by Government Middle School Teacher R Karthikraja in Kathazhai Panchayat in the Cuddalore district that launched an internet radio ‘www.kalviradio.com’ for the benefit of students.
He has carried out this initiative by considering the status of students in villages that are only able to pay for 2G networks.
About 75 teachers, from their own interests and love for their students, have joined hands to effectively run this internet radio for the benefit of the students.
Thousands of students, learn from class I to class VIII, benefit from this and they only need 300MB of data per day to attend classes, Kamal said in a statement.
The fact that Internet radio has attracted more than 3.2 lakh visitors and has functions for more than 14,500 hours indicating the need and demand for such services, he said.
“Full time radio stations for education will be very beneficial for poor students and also help other students reduce their screen time,” Kamal said.
