Law against forced conversion may be in k’taka

Bengaluru: After three countries ruled BJP – Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh – Karnataka plans to bring laws to prevent forced religious repentance.
“The problem (religious conversion) has arrived at the government’s notification.
Converting people from one religion to another by inducing them is a violation that can be punished.
We will maintain a vigil in such activities.
There is a broad network that works on religious conversion throughout the country And we will immediately bring anti-conversion bills to control it, “said Interior Minister Araga Jnanendra to the Assembly on Tuesday.
He said the government had asked officials to study laws carried out by three countries.
Haryana also works on the final draft of anti-conversion law.
The Karnataka government does not offer the timeline but the source of the State Law Department said the bill could be submitted in the legislative winter session if everything went according to plan.
BJP MLA: Conversion of religion forcibly has become rife.
The minister’s statement came when several BJP legislators accused several churches and missionaries pampering religious conversion by targeting Dalit, community to back and Muslims.
Hosadurga BJP Mla GooSihati Shekhar, who raised this problem for several hours, said the conversion of religion by forcibly or through persuasion was rampant in the state.
He quoted his own mother, who had embraced Christianity, for example.
“Christian evangelists pamper religious repentance is rampant in my constituency (Hosadurga).
They have received around 20,000 people converted to Christianity from Hinduism,” he thought.
He said several churches and Christian missionaries lured innocent people, and they were sick with the promises of healing, to their religious places where they were “brainwashed”.
Shekhar said his mother was “ordered” by a certain church to remove all photos of gods and goddesses in their homes and not wearing ‘Kumkum’ (Vermillion) on his forehead.
“We find it difficult to do puja (worship) at home.
It’s very difficult for us,” Shekhar said.
“If someone overcomes such actions, then they are diffrted with cases of false cruelities against the Communties SC / SC, or even worse, accusations of rape,” he continued allegedly.
Former Bopaiiah and Nagthan Mla Devanand Chavan speakers also raised concerns over allegations of improving conversions in Karnataka.
Chavan accused a large number of strong 50,000 lambani communities in the Vijayapura district have been targeted by evangelists.
Congress MLA KJ George, however, said the sweeping statement was invalid and unreasonable.
“Legislators must determine the name of the church involved in such actions,” he said.
Recording this problem, Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri asked the Bomavaraj Bommai government led to overcome this problem and consider bringing anti-conversion law because some other countries have done.
The law applied by three countries ruled by BJP focuses on prevention of interfaith partners to get married, on the grounds that such a marriage involves forced repentance.
