Gurgaon: To educate migrant workers about various legal rights and laws that protect their lives and livelihoods, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) and Northcap University on Saturday launched projects throughout the year, called Unnati, in Gurgaon.
Officials said they would bring legal graduates and students to produce awareness among casual workers about their legal rights.
On the first day, a group of law students from Northcap University interacted with several migrant workers at Chowk Labor near Sector 22 and introduced them to their legal rights and how to use it.
The students also facilitated the registration of several unorganized sector workers with the state labor welfare council.
“These students interact with around 50 to 60 migrant workers.
These workers are informed of various laws and conditions available for them to ensure that they are not exploited,” said a DLSA spokesman.
“The part of this worker makes themselves registered with the labor welfare council,” he added.
The Labor Department welcomed the displacement and claimed the officials were on a war footing to register workers on the e-Shram portal.
While the target has been established to register more than 5 lakh workers next month, less than 10,000 workers have been registered so far.
“We will provide support to this campaign and help regulate a series of camps throughout the city for workers,” said a Labor Department official.
