Ahmedabad: Raghav Katakiya, a teacher from Mentiyala in Amreli, for the past year has run ‘mobile school’ directly from his bicycle.
“My students from various villages cannot reach school so I bring school to them,” he said.
Katakiya, who was profiled by Ravi J Matthai Center for Education Innovation (RJMCEI) at IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A), was part of an 800 strange teacher whose initiative during the Covid-19 pandemic was documented as part of the Innovation Bank.
Because Sunday will mark the day of teacher, for public schools, this is a day to celebrate many teachers who go out of their way to beg, borrow and innovate during a pandemic.
Gujarat teachers ensure education reaches economically underground students in rural areas, which, unlike their urban colleagues, do not have access to a TV screen or cellphone.

Vijaya Sherry Chand, Chair of RJMCEI, said that the pandemic exposed the digital differences in the community.
“The teacher quickly realizes it.
Their main concern is that students will forget the teachings, and will be without formal education for a long time.
Thus, they begin to innovate and reach them,” he said.
He added that the teachers from all Gujarat had been a lot of valuable with the same-minded teachers to study new technology ropes and educational innovations.
“Covid-19 has raised informal school admissions throughout the country.
E-Bicycle ensures children in remote areas are not deprived of education,” said the innovation which has been replicated by other school teachers in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
In Mehsana, Ravi Patel of Cluster Resource Center in Suraj Village at Jotana Taluka raised funds to install 75 television devices with DTH connections in 10 villages.
In Patan, a desperate parent and the same principle desperately joined by hand to achieve education to students using a cable TV network to help excite the problems faced through cellphones.
After his daughter complained of difficulties in learning on the phone, Mayur Goswami, cable TV operators in Sankeshwar City met Ashok Dave, Prajapati DP Principal and education began to radiant in people’s homes.
Instead of the classroom, the teachers took their class session from a large hall with several cameras in action.
Editing is done in a local studio and each session is a telecast using a cable TV network.
About 2,000 students in more than 70 villages have received education during the closing of the Covid-19 school using the system.
