Mumbai: Exponent of the leading Kathak India and Padma Vibhushan Awardee, PT Birju Maharaj, died Monday morning after suffering a heart attack.
Doyen is 83 years old, who is Torchbearer from Kalka-Bindadin Gharana from Lucknow style Kathak, exhales the latter at Saket New Delhi Hospital.

His father even though he died when he was only nine, leaving him in his famous uncle’s care of PT Lachhu Maharaj and PT Shambhu Maharaj.
Initially the name was ‘Dukh Haran’, which was then converted into ‘Brijmohan’, Synonyms of Krishna.
Brijmohan Nath Misra was then shortened to be ‘BIRJI’.
He began to appear at an early age, and by seven, he had traveled to several parts of India with his father.
Solo shows also started at a young age.
Right at the beginning of his career, PT Birju Maharaj was sent by the Indian government to represent India at various festivals.
He toured Russia, United States, Japan, England, UAE, France, Germany, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic among other countries.
