Coimbatore: The powerloom unit owners at the district along with neighbouring Tirupur have resisted the state authorities to permit them to restart operations such as the other sectors with limited labour.
In a letter to chief minister M Stalin on Tuesday, members of the Association of Job Working Powerloom Units at Coimbatore and Tirupur stated that there have been five lakh employees determined by the industry from both districts and they have been looking at doubt due to the closing of the components for the last few days.
“There are approximately 2.5 lakh powerloom units at the 2 districts and many of them are small and micro units.
The closing of the units has struck on the livelihood of the employees,” the letter read.
They stated orders from fabric producers had dried up due to the lockdown and they had been under duress, due to the obligations to repay bank accounts.
The association members stated since many sectors were allowed to operate, powerloom units also be allowed to conquer the financial limitations.
They said the little units employ just a few employees and they would rigorously enforce the Covid standards including wearing masks and keeping social distancing.
The association also urged the ministry to permit them to pay energy fees in 3 instalments with no punishment, since they were short of capital.
