‘Let your dog die’, Ola driver tells shocked pet owner

MUMBAI: Andheri based pet owner, Twinkle Jain, has complained to the Ola Cabs company about her rather horrendous encounters with Ola drivers recently when she had to rush her pet dog, Britney, to a vet’s clinic.
While several Ola cabbies declined the rides on seeing Jain carrying her ailing pet, one particular driver actually told her `Marne do usko, main kya karu (Let your pet die, what can I do)’.
Talking to TOI, Jain said: `”It was an emergency situation, as my fur baby, Britney, was very unwell and therefore had to be immediately taken to a vet in Khar from DN Nagar in Andheri during the lockdown period.
While many of the Ola drivers I had booked cancelled the rides on seeing the dog with me, one of the drivers was very rude and ruthless as he coldly told me `Marne do usko, main kya karu’.
I wanted to ask him if he would say the same if an ailing human desperately needed to go somewhere in his taxi.” Jain added that she had also taken a blanket/bedsheet along so that Ola taxi seats will not get dirty at all.
Yet, she had to suffer at the hands of the Ola drivers who did not show even an ounce of sympathy or compassion for the situation she was in.
“My pet Britney is recovering now, as I had to somehow manage to transport her in another vehicle.
However, I want to know what action Ola will take on such uncouth and stone cold drivers who did not budge even after seeing Britney crying in pain.
I may also take legal action against them if the cab company does nothing about it,” said Jain, who also posted her video-blog on this matter on twitter and instagram last week.
When TOI contacted an Ola spokesperson, she stated: “We regret this unfortunate incident and wouldn’t want any pet parent to go through it.
While we at Ola are not against pets in vehicles, the decision to allow one in the vehicle is with driver.
This is because some of them may be afraid of pets or have allergies, amongst other things.
However, we will definitely action strong measures to ensure more sensitivity and empathy to avoid such behaviour.”
