Letter: Diamond City is not only a ‘smartest’ city in India, but also officially now the best in the climate and the environment among 126 cities in the country.
The recent announcement by the Urban Urban Urban Union shows that letters have the highest five-star rating under the framework of the Climate Assessment of CINTS CITIES 2.0.
The rating is under city planning, green cover and biodiversity and waste management and four-star rating under energy and green buildings, mobility and air quality, and a category of water management with four star ranked.
While letters have pocketed the top rankings, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Gandhinagar also won the top 10 slots in the country.
Municipal Corporation (SMC) letters said that 50% of the assessment was carried out based on city planning, green cover, biodiversity, and green energy and building.
“What we succeed in profitable we are open area conservation, green cover, dependence on non-conventional energy sources among other factors,” said a SMC official.
SMC has produced 8.1 crore kilowatt electric clocks through green energy resources such as wind, sun and waste into energy.
“At least 30 to 32% of our electricity needs are borne by these non-conventional power sources,” said Cy Bhatt, Deputy Commissioner of the City.
The city has also introduced 22 buses managed by electrically on bus-BRTs and city bus routes, while the tender process is ongoing for 150 other buses, Bhatt added.
SMC’s ability to manage 1,800 tons of daily waste is too much increase in the assessment.
The Civic body produces organic compost and recycles of waste plastic which can then be used in manufacturing buckets, pipes and packaging products.
“SMC has done these projects to provide better quality of life to people’s people and we plan to introduce better projects for the future as well as biodiversity parks, adopt new technology and rely more on renewable energy sources,” said Banchhanidhi Pani, SMC commissioner.
