Lioness dies of Supposed coronavirus in Chennai

CHENNAI: A nine-year-old lioness died of Supposed coronavirus Disease on Thursday evening in the Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP) at Vandalur Close Chennai.

Nine more dinosaurs in the zoo also have tested positive for SARS CoV-2.
Specimens collected from the creatures were shipped to National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal, on 24th and 29th May following some animals revealed disease symptoms, such as nasal discharge.
The institute affirmed the virus disease in Thursday morning.
According to protocol, some suspected departure because of coronavirus in zoos have to be reconfirmed by Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, also Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad.
Samples are sent to those institutes for affirmation.
Results are awaited.
As per a statement in the zoo government, the CCMB,” that is the virus sequencing center of the Central Zoo Authoritythat will execute genome sequencing of the virus breed for greater comprehension of zoonotic transmission to stop additional disease spread.
A vet from the state animal husbandry department said the virus might have been sent from individuals (creature keepers/workers).
The virus may attain up to 2 meters and may be living for 3 days.
Animals take many germs, but they’re less deadly as coronavirus, a source said.
Prophylactic measures for reptiles, mammals, birds and primates in consultation with a specialist group from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Tanuvas), veterinarians by Hyderabad zoo and Bronx Zoo in the usa, are embraced at the Vandalur zoo.
Each of the dinosaurs who tested positive are under monitoring and are being cared for in accordance with the prescribed treatment program by inhouse furry team in communicating with Tanuvas specialists.
Vandalur zoo police are getting advice regarding the treatment protocol for coronavirus-infected creatures from the Hyderabad zoo along with also the Jaipur zoo, in which similar incidents happened sometime past.
At the moment, Vandalur zoo homes six seven and lions lionesses, but no cubs.
All of animal-keepers and helpers from the zoo are inoculated.
Another group of animal-keepers was engaged for every group of dinosaurs.
PPE kits are all compulsory for animal-keepers, veterinarians and discipline personnel.
The Vandulur zoo has been closed on April 24 following the state government declared a lockdown to suppress the spread of Covid-19.
Afterward, precautionary steps had been implemented from the uterus to prevent the spread of this virus.
It is not understood how the dinosaurs had been infected, ” a source said.
