Theni: Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has asked police Theni district to initiate an action against a 27-year-old man for raping a 14-year-old girl after she gave birth to a baby.
The incident came to light when the girl approached the CWC to hand over the baby girl because she would not be able membesainya.
According to members of CWC B Pandiaraja, a girl from a village in Andipatti Taluk stated that several months ago neighbors Perumal, 27, gave her food with sedatives and raped her.
She said she had been informed only after she regained consciousness but did not tell his family.
A few months ago, his mother took him to a government clinic when he fell ill.
“She just said at that moment she knew that she was pregnant and that he was in the seventh month of pregnancy,” the member said.
She gave birth to a baby in a government hospital on 11 November.
Theni District CWC led police to initiate action against Perumal below the protection of children from sexual offenses (POCSO).
The Committee also sought a report from the police about the action taken against the offender within 15 days.
The baby was sent home in Tuticorin district for temporary care.
