Liverpool have reached an agreement to signal middle back Ibrahima Konate from German side RB Leipzig, the Premier League club said on Friday.
Frenchman Konate, 22, will combine the Anfield club July 1 after his work permit program is accepted and medicals are finished.
Financial specifics of the move weren’t demonstrated but British press reported Liverpool triggered a 41 million euros ($49.
82 million) release clause in his contract.
Konate needed a contract before June 2023 with Leipzig.
“I am quite pleased to be joining such a large club like Liverpool,” Konate, that has played with 95 times for Leipzig, explained in an announcement.
“it is a very exciting moment for me and my loved ones and I am actually excited about fulfilling my teammates, both the team and getting started with this new chapter.
“I’ve worked really difficult for several years to reach this stage, but I’d love to convey a huge thank you for everybody in RB Leipzig and each of the folks I worked out there — that the coaches, my teammates, and the team and the fans.
” Konate is going to likely be involved with all the France team from the knockout phases of this Under-21 European Championship which start May 31.
Liverpool fought to guard against their Premier League title last year after an injury disaster in prison once they dropped Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez into season-ending accidents early in the effort.
Joel Matip was wounded for extended periods.
Liverpool director Juergen Klopp has been made to play with midfielders like Fabinho in Deadly and inexperienced defenders Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak were signed up at the winter transfer window to attempt and plug the openings.
“I am really pleased we have managed to bring a participant of Ibrahima’s caliber to our group and he’s someone I have admired for quite a while, actually since I became conscious of his potential if he had been Sochaux,” Klopp said.
“After the problems we had injuries from the centre-half place last year, there is no doubt that it was apparent that it had been still an area of the group we had to fortify.
