Lucknow: At least 53 roadside parking slots closed on Friday after their contract was canceled by Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on the grounds that they did not have basic facilities mandated in the contract and excessive complaints.
This step, however, invites protests from Corporators who say that decisions taken without making alternative arrangements will result in discomfort for people.

An investigation must begin to improve the responsibility of the LMC officer who gives a contract without verifying the availability of basic facilities in the parking lot.
Where this parking lot is located, including Jalan Shahnajaf, Lalbagh, Aminabaad, Mirabai, Aliganjar, Gomtinagar, Gomtinagar extension, Tedhi Pulia, Faizabad Road, Kanpur Road, Gole Market and TransportNagar.
All lots are located on the side of the road in the open.
According to LMC officials, the decision to close the parking lot was taken by Commissioner of the City of Ajay Dwivedi in the direction of the state government.
Many of these places do not have facilities such as warehouses, drinking water and toilets that are required to fit the contract.
There are also several overcharging complaints.
The decision will affect more than 35,000 commuters parking their vehicles in this lot.
