ThiruvananThapuram: Kerala Livestock Development Board (KLDB) has been holding hands with the Institute of Education and Research (IISER) India to promote cooperation for the progress of livestock breeding, the selection of genomes, research and educational exchanges between the two organizations.
The Minister of Animal Husbandry J Chinchuran said the state government aims to produce more livestock that resisted disease without reducing milk production in its efforts to achieve self-sufficiency or even surplus milk production in the state.
For this, such collaboration will be useful because livestock is now made easier to adapt to a bad situation and also for predictable climate change problems.
When talking to the occasion JN Moorthy, Director of Iiser, said the organization was happy to enter into such a scientific collaborative effort to increase productivity and livestock resistant ability in this country by modifying the most suitable genetic structures for the situation and requirements of the agricultural community.
Jose James, the KLDB Managing Director, said advanced technology would be used in research projects, utilizing world-class infrastructure available with IISER.
Collection of samples, processing, DNA isolation, etc.
will be carried out by the KLDB.
IISER will set the genome sequencing and related works and also provide expertise in processing data and analysis.
The Minister also visited the advanced instrumentation facilities from Iiser, including specific pathogenous animal homes in Iiser.
