Logging trees for construction: new rules on cards

Gurgaon: The corporation of the city of Gurgaon (MCG) has proposed regulations for tree logging and trimming in the area under its jurisdiction.
The Civic’s body has proposed that residents must ask permission to cut or trim trees from MCG environmental nodal officials and sustainability wings.
A team will then visit the site to ensure whether it needs to cut the tree or not.
The applicant must also compensate for the steps by depositing costs to plant 10 times the number of trees that are cut down and also have to bear their treatment costs for three years.
The regulation will be submitted at the MCG House meeting which will be held on July 31.
The corporation proposes regulations after the forestry department asks him to review the first application for logging trees based on environmental consequences before continuing it.
In a letter to the MCG Commissioner on June 2, the department said more trees were being cut because of the recent increase in the ratio and regional permit to build four floors on housing plots with the provision of cabern parking.
“According to the proposed tree / trimming regulation, the applicant must first seek permission from the Nodal officer.
First we will examine whether the tree is blocking the entry of the main gate or construction of the house, in addition to other conditions set to give permission to logging trees.
After The applicant deposes the cost of compensation, we will continue the application to the Ministry of Forestry for their final approval.
After the approval is given, we will cut down the tree, “said Nodal Officer Subhash Yadav.
MCG officials say that in accordance with existing practices, the Ministry of Forestry collects charges of planting compensation 10 times the number of trees cut down only if applicants are builders or organizations.
Because the application will now switch from MCG to the Ministry of Forestry, applicants or individuals who apply for logging trees must deposit allegations to the corporation.
The proposal also recommends a penalty on those involved in illegal logging and tree trimming.
It has been proposed that the logging of trees without MCG permits must be considered a violation under the City Law, 1994 and the Environmental Protection Law, 1986.
The perpetrators must save the cost of compensation for 20 times the number of trees cut down illegally three years of maintenance.
For the pruning of illegal trees in the MCG area, the branch of trimming is more than 25cm in diameter without permission to pay a fine of RS 1,000 per branch.
“If the perpetrator fails to deposit the number, the problem must be submitted in a special environmental court, Faridabad for prosecution,” said the proposed regulation.
