Thiruvananthapuram: Lokayukta has directed the state government and the Minister of Higher Education R Bindu to submit their explanation of the petition submitted by the former opposition leader in connection with the line promise of the University of Kannur’s Vice-Chancellor meeting.
Chennithala had approached Lokayukta who was looking for actions against the minister for allegedly indulging in nepotism and corruption in the appointment of VC.
The minister, who is also a pro-Chancellor of the university, has written two letters to the governor, which is a chancellor, recommends the removal of the University of Kannur VC Gopinath Ravindran.
Chennithala in his request argued that the Minister did not have the right to recommend VC appointments.
The division bench consisting of Jose Cyriac Jose and Justice Harun R Rasheed ordered Lokayuka T shaji lawyer to produce a version of the minister and the government.
This case was posted for the next hearing on January 18.
Senior Advocate George Pointhottam appeared for Chennithala.
Meanwhile, the government followed a strict silence for controversy resolved by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan in connection with the appointment of VC Kannur’s meeting and Dlitt controversy at Kerala University.
The Bindu Minister said the problem between Chancellor and the University must be resolved among themselves because the government has a more important task to attend.
