LONDON: London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Saturday declared a “big incident” in the British capital because of the spread of Omicron variants.
More than 65,000 new Covid cases were confirmed in London for the past seven days, and 26,418 cases were reported in the last 24 hours – the highest number since the start of the Pandemic.
The main incidence is defined as events with serious consequences that require special arrangements to be implemented, and are intended to help authorities support each other to reduce service disruptions in the city.
Khan previously stated the main incident on January 8 during the previous virus wave, but stood in a month later as a falling case number.
“The surge in the cases of omicron variants in our capital is very concerned, so we once again declare a big incident because of the threat of Covid-19 to our city,” Khan said.
“It is true that London’s key agency works together to minimize the impact on our city, including helping to protect vital vital programs,” he added.
The UK recorded a record case number for three consecutive days for a week, encouraging the introduction of new regulations and other locking reports on the road.
It announced 90,418 cases on Saturday, slightly falling on Friday, although the weekend number was usually slightly lower.
