Nagpur: Build in the fact that the number of public toilets is insufficient, especially for women, across the city, Trust repair Nagpur (NIT) has proposed to build 78 of these facilities, the majority will be for women.
Activists, however, said the city needed more public toilets than it was decided and also in the right place with quality operations and maintenance (O & M).
Nit has floated the expression of interest (EOI) that invites individuals, organizations or NGOs for the construction of toilets and its O & M.
Interested parties can register to Nit until January 25.
Chairman of Nit Manoj Kumar Kumar Suryawanshi told TII that the planned trust to develop public facilities centers, which consisted of public toilets, which will also have sources of income for O & M.
“We have identified locations that have 3,000 to 5,000 square areas.
We will also facilitate the bathroom, “he said.
“The idea is to offer space in these centers to install ATMs or other income income facilities so that the operation and maintenance will be taken care of,” he said.
“Nit is also open to the idea of any organization that is willing to build and ensure O & M public toilets themselves.
In such cases, we will tap income from alternative sources from land use,” Suryawanshi said.
Activist Abhijeet Singh Chandel from the Nagpur Citizen Forum said the city needed at least 300 toilets.
“We have launched a campaign – the right to urinate – to highlight the need to have more public toilets and in the right location.
This forum has conducted a survey and identified 300 places where public toilets are a must,” Chandel said, adding facilities It must be a bio-toilet.
“We also plan to produce income models to make sustainable public toilets,” he said.
Leena Buddhhe from the NGO Center for sustainable development said at first, the authorities needed to renovate the existing public toilets followed by ensuring regular and regular O & M.
“The construction of new public toilets is always accepted, but this must be facilitated where they are requested most like market places, hawking zones, large squares where people gather in large quantities every day,” said Buddhe.
“There is also a need to have a general toilet dedicated to women.
There is no point in building a public toilet that has the same entrance for men and women,” he said.
