LOS ANGELES: Public Health Authority in Los Angeles County announced that residents will be asked to wear masks in the indoor public space, regardless of their vaccination status, due to increased Covid-19 transmission.
The new mandate will take effect at 11:59 a.m.
on Saturday, according to the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.
The new mandate came a month after California fully reopened its economy on June 15 by lifting almost all restrictions.
The State Authority said then the mask was no longer needed for individuals who were fully vaccinated in most public settings.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY The Ministry of Health Public said that County “saw more than seven times a new case increase since it was reopened in June”, adding that the virus community transmission has increased rapidly from trends in new cases every day.
On June 15, Los Angeles County saw 210 new cases.
However, officials confirmed that on Thursday, County saw the highest number of new cases since mid-March with a total of 1,537.
The test level of testing increased from 0.5 percent was seen a month ago, up to 3.7 percent Thursday, according to the data issued by the department.
This is the seventh consecutive day that county, home for more than 10 million residents, has reported more than 1,000 new cases amid the distribution of Delta variants in the region.
“We hope to maintain masking requirements in place until we begin to see an increase in our Covid-19 community transmission,” Muntu Davis said, a health worker for Los Angeles County, urged all the citizens who were eligible to vaccinate.
Until now, the Los Angeles County Ministry of Public Health has reported 1,262,578 positive cases with 24,566 deaths in the county.
Official data shows that among the population aged 16 years and above in Los Angeles County, 69 percent have received at least one dose and 61 percent has now been fully vaccinated.
