Mumbai: Reducing hearing, dry mouth, pulsating headaches and conjunctivitis are some of the newer symptoms seen in Covid-19 patients.
The Covid Country Task Force member urged the doctor to suspect Covid even in cases where the signs of Copper cough, sore throat, no breath is not there.
Registering several developing symptoms, Dr.
Rahul Pandit, a member of the task force, saying difficulties in hearing, conjunctivitis, extreme weakness, dry mouth and reducing saliva secretion, durable headaches and skin rashes may also be signs of covid.
“Even though this disease has existed for 17 months, newer symptoms are still developing and we need to watch them,” he said at an online conference chaired by the Chair of the Minister of Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday.
Globally, there are several documented sensorineural hearing cases associated with Covid-19.
Inflammation of hearing nerves or clots caused by viral infections can affect the same hearing as it affects the sense of smell, said Dr.
Samir Bhargava, head of ENT at RN Cooper.
“We have not seen exponential leaps in the event of a sudden hearing loss, even though we are alert because the viral infection is known to cause it,” he said, adding that patients like that need steroid care.
Dr.
Sanjay Oak, Chair of the Task Force, said that during the second wave was driven by the Delta variant, many only had gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
Fever can be present in various forms, he said.
Some are not fever, some get it in bursts, some in intervals two to three days, while in many things it completely subsides, just to return with severity.
TaskForce members emphasize that initial testing is the most important.
Dr.
Oak said family doctors had an important role in advising Covid tests, RT-PCR preferred.
“If the test is done immediately, the person can be given an effective antivirus or monoclonal antibodies if given earlier,” he said.
At the event, Dr.
Shashank Joshi, an endocrine expert and a member of the task force, said people who tested positively had to watch six vital parameters – temperature, respiratory level, pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and blood sugar levels.
Dr.
Pandit said blood sugar is a parameter that can prevent many complications, including the risk of mukorkosis.
Experts emphasize that full recovery requires at least three weeks.
DR Cardiology Ajit Ajit said that post-covid up to 40% of patients can wrestle with neuropsychiatric disorders, including anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, while up to 5% may have a tra thromboemboli event.
