Low death, but 20% of mucor patients lose eyes or jaws: kgmu documents

Lucknow: Nearly 20% of patients suffering from mukormycosis or black mushrooms at the medical university of King George (KGMU) are disappeared or one of the jaws or ceilings, according to the analysis of 390 patients who recognize the element to the first week of July.

Eyes 14 patients who underwent surgery must be taken out by the doctor to save their lives.

In the rest, the Debridement operation is carried out to clean the infected and dead tissue from the sinus.
Overall, 74 musyrcosis patients lose the facial / oral cavity features.
About 54 (14%) patients died during treatment.
The deceased includes 14 who underwent surgery.
The rest (40) comes in the last stage of the disease and dies before surgery can be done.
However, the doctor has managed to save the lives of many patients.
Musormycosis mortality rate of up to 50%, but in KgMu only 14% so far.
While 110 patients had expired after substantial recovery due to treatment, 226 still in care.
“We must follow up regularly to ensure that infection does not reappear,” said Dr.
Himanshu, medical supervisor, Kgmu.
“It takes time for patients to bear losses.
The replacement of artificial replacements can begin after the patient is stabilized after surgery,” he added.
Because most patients suffer from diabetes and immunocompromised, they need to control blood sugar strictly.
They also have to avoid places with high moisture and always wear masks, doctors said.
Eye doctor Dr.
Sandeep Saxena said, “Eye removal surgery is done only when mukormycosis damages the network of all organs.
Only cosmetic eyes that can be implanted to maintain a normal appearance Dead network, including teeth, jaws and soft ceilings, are removed.
“We follow patients for five to six months after surgery for every possible coating infection before going for reconstructive operation using bones and muscle tissue from the thighs and pelvic area.”
