Jaipur: The lack of water in Pong Lake Dam in the Kangra District in Himachal Pradesh will regard to the supply for irrigation in several Rajasthan districts during the Rabbi season.
Pong Lake Dam and Bhakra Nangal Dam supplied water to Indira Gandhi Nahar PProject (IGNP), which extends to Jodhpur-Barmer in the south and Jhunjhunu in the north.
The state will receive less water from January 12, 2022, which will have an impact on the hectare of 1 lakh agricultural land.
The state requires a minimum of 15 lakh water cusecs every year to meet their needs under drinking water and the purpose of irrigation.
Bad rainfall in the catchment area plus erratic rain in winter has reduced water in the Pong Dam.
The district that will be affected is Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Nagaur, Sikar and Jhunjhunu.
“This year the shares allocated to us are 9 lakh cusecs, which are almost half of the total needs under the project.
This clearly means that we can provide water for irrigation until January 12 and after water will be available for drinking purposes,” Amarjeet Singh said, Quality control officer at IGNP.
Share the state in Lake Pong Dam is 49% while the remainder is distributed between Punjab and Haryana.
The cycle of water regulations ended on May 20.
Shares are charged water available on the dam.
Officials at IGNP said from January 12, water will be reduced to a slab of 6.5 lakh cusec water (every year) for the next 25-34 cycle.
“The distribution of water will decrease into a 2.5 lakh cusec (per year) plate at the beginning of summer,” said Singh.
Officials in Jaipur said they would review the situation and write to the center to make additional settings.
The impact that can be seen from scarcity will be on wheat plants, mustard, sunflowers and grams if water is not available after January.
Water for irrigation is distributed every after 25-34 days to provide at least 3-4 cycles to farmers in rabbi plants.
