THANE: Investigators probing the seizure of the 1,496 Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) blots worth Rs 1.04 crore, found that the accused used Bitcoins through dark-net and ordered the contraband to Kalyan from Netherlands.
The police arrested, Bhavik Thakkar, 22, Niwant Velhekar, 21, and Mani Bhargav, 21, in the case.
The police said investigation revealed that it was Velhekar who sourced the drug from abroad.
“Preliminary probe revealed that the consignment ordered from abroad would reach Bhargav’s residence in Dombivli and Thakkar would then hunt for addicts as well as dopey’s and sell the small price of paper for over Rs 7,000-Rs 10,000 depending on the capacity of the buyer,” said a police officer.
The work on gathering evidences in this regard is under way, added a police officer.
“It is interesting to know the other links of the accused and as who is their source and who has dispatched the consignment to the accused by courier and probing the international links to the racket,” said a police officer privy to the probe.
The police suspect that there could be a very large client base of the accused considering the huge cache found with them as most of them are college going students, they may have a huge clientele base not just in the suburbs but other cities as well.
It was last week, the Anti Narcotics Cell of Thane crime branch arrested the trio for possessing the drug and possibly selling it in the various parts of suburbs.
They were produced in Kalyan court that remanded them to police custody for further interrogation.
