Lucknow: Sequence of Swab Samples from more than 100 Covid-19 patients in Lucknow have found the presence of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus novel.
This sample was taken for tests around 10-12 days after the patient was tested positively, the results were stated on Tuesday by the Ministry of Health.
The findings, said experts, showed that Omicron quickly replaced the Delta variant in the state capital.
Officials said that around 132 samples were sent to sequencing genomes to the medical university of King George.
Among them, the Omicron variant was found to be present in 106 samples.
Officials also told the omicron variants mostly found in patients who had traveled to the states and other countries and their contacts.
“At present, the Omicron variant is found in almost 90% of samples taken from all states.
This shows that the new variant replaces the Delta variant in Lucknow in another part,” said the Covid State Supervisory Officer Dr.
Vikasendu Agrawal.
.
“Seeing trends, we now focus on home insulation and treatment of patients along with massive contact search,” he added.
Experts also said that experiences so far show that omicron variants can avoid antibodies produced by vaccines, but the impact on the lungs is lower than the Delta variant.
These, they added, explaining why hospitalization was low in the third wave caused by the Omicron variant despite a high level of prospective compared to the second wave triggered by the Delta variant.
When asked about areas infected with patients with Omicron variants, Chief Medical Officer Dr.
Manoj Agrawal said, “State administration has not distributed the details of the case with us.
Contact search will be done as soon as we get data.”
