LUCKNOW: The Lucknow franchise of the Indian Premier League will be called a super Lucknow Giants after its owners announced the name chosen by the fans.
Lucknow official IPL team, owned by RPSG Group, decided to take the public opinion of the fans and the name was shared by the owners Sanjiv Goenka in a video message on Monday.
“Thank you very much for the overwhelming response to the contest ‘Naam Banao kamao naam’.
Lakh and lakhs of people responded, based on that we were very happy to choose a name for Lucknow IPL team,” Goenka said in his message, while showing the team name.
“And the name that we have chosen based on your recommendations Lucknow super Giants.
Thak you very much for your response and love and continue to give our thanks to you in the future as well.” Franchisors have launched a campaign of consumer involvement in social media on January 3 to decide the name of the new IPL side.
Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be two new teams in the IPL this year as favorable T20 tournament expanded its wings to become a 10-team contest.
KL Rahul will lead the Lucknow franchise in the IPL.
Besides Lucknow franchise, which was purchased by the RSPG Group for a whopping Rs 7090 crore, Ahmedabad is another new team brings purchased by CVC Capital Partners for Rs 5625 crore.
