NEW DELHI: Concerned over the disparity in evaluation of the class XII results which is to be based on assessments at school level, the University of Lucknow (LU) has decided to revert to an entrance exam based admission for its undergraduate courses.
Last year, the university had conducted admissions based on merit.
The entrance exam is likely to take place in August.
Being the first university to introduce the National Education Policy 2020 from last year itself, the university is also going to introduce new undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the 2021-22 session.
The university will also have more UG seats this year with the addition of four more districts in its fold.
Speaking to the TOI, professor Alok Kumar Rai, vice chancellor, LU, said: “Unlike Delhi University, we are going to conduct our undergraduate entrance test so that good students do not suffer as the mark sheets don’t establish distinction among students.”

On the schedule for the entrance exam Rai said: “We will wait for the results to be declared as we receive students from across the country.
CBSE and the UP government have announced the dates, many other state governments are still doing it.
So we hope we will be conducting it somewhere in August.”
At present there are around 130 colleges affiliated to it.
LU has 4,000 UG seats for on campus programmes and around 50,000 in its affiliated colleges.
According to Rai, the PhD entrance will be computer based and the UG entrance will be offline.
In 2020 the university established a Faculty of Yoga and Alternative Medicine, a first of its kind in the country for a regular university.Considering the pandemic situation, it also established an Institute of Advanced Molecular Genetics and Infectious Diseases.
“And we have recently received approval from the Pharmacy Council of India to start our pharmacy program and we have established the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences”.
