VADODARA: A professor of museology at M.S.
University will now head the national committee of the Paris-based International Council of Museums (ICOM).
Professor Ambika Patel, head of Department of Museology at MSU’s Faculty of Fine Arts, has been elected as president of ICOM India for three years.
She is the first one from Gujarat who will head the national committee of ICOM, the France-based apex body representing museums, museums and heritage professionals around the world maintaining its formal relations with UNESCO.
ICOM has 32 international committees and 118 national committees.
ICOM India is the national committee representing India in the international council of museums.
Ambika was earlier secretary of ICOM India.
Based on her work she became a board member of the Asia Pacific Regional Committee of ICOM for 2019-2023.
Now, she will head the Indian committee.
“My efforts will be to lift our museum sector and showcase India’s presence at international platform,” Ambika told TOI.
“There are many areas in the museum sector where we can place our problems and garner support and expertise from ICOM which is the world’s apex museums professional body,” she said.
