Thiruvananthapuram: Monsignor Thomas J Netto was declared the new Archbishop Thiruvananthapuram in Soosa Pakiam announced his retirement on Wednesday at the St Joseph Cathedral.
Previously, Soosa Pakiam had released all the official responsibilities after he was 75 and waited until Pope Francis received his resignation.
The Archbishop has only served as the Coordinator of the Archdiocese of Latin Thiruvananthapuram.
Monsignor Thomas J Netto was born in Puthiyathura in the Archdiocese Thiruvananthapuram on December 29, 1964.
He belonged to Parish Puthiyathura.
After attending the Small Seminary of St.
Vincent in Thiruvananthapuram, he studied the philosophy at the Pontifical Seminary of St Joseph at Carmelgiri, which was later followed by theology course at St Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary at Mangalapuzha, Aluva.
He has a master’s degree in sociology and a doctorate in the dogmatic theology of the Pontificia Universita Urbaniana in Rome and appointed as Pastor Parish Pettah from 1999-2003.
He has served as an assistant of the Imam in the Empress and Pallayam and as Executive Secretary for Ekumenism and dialogue.
He also served as Executive Secretary of the Basic Christian Community, the Chancellor of Minor St Vincent’s Seminar in Thiruvananthapuram, the Priest Parish in the Thoper and Ministries Coordinator, Episcopal Vicar for the Ministry, St Augustine Church Parish Pastor in Murukkumpuzha and Editor of Magazine was diced.
He is a member of the College of Consultors from 2007 and is an episcopal vicar and ministry coordinator from 2021.
