Bhopal: Three people including their partners and grandchildren were trampled on to death by a flock of wild elephants in the Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, the second incident in the region in the past few months, officials said.
The incident was reported from the area of Belgaon Nimaha Panchayat where the elephant invaded the village caused great damage to the properties and killed three of them near agriculture.
The location is close to Chhattisgarh from where nine elephants deviate, officials said.
One of the deceased has been identified as the style of Prasad Ketwat.
Anuppur DFO A n Ansari told the media that there was a wild elephant movement in the area since Wednesday.
The villagers have tried to push them back to Chhattisgarh.
However, they returned through other routes within WEE.
Forest officials have issued counselors against wild elephants.
The officer told me that the family members of the deceased would be compensated according to the rules.
In April 2020, three people were killed by wild elephants in the same district.
Two are women, who work on their farm and a man who guard plants.
The incident was reported from the village of Purga under the Tehsil Pushprajgarh of the district.
There are more victims afterwards.
In February, an old man and two corners – aged 12 and 13 years – was chased and destroyed to death by wild elephants near the Sanjay tiger reserve in the Sidhi district.
This incident was reported from Haiki Village, located 85 km from the district head office.
The deceased was identified as Gerelal Yadav, 60, and his grandson Ramkrapal (12) and Ramprasad (13).

He raised the alarm and asked the children to escape.
However, elephants chased and trampled them, kill all three in place.

Then, angered population in the village, bordering Chhattisgarh, has held a blockade on Jalan Tilwari-Janakpur in protests demanding compensation.
Officials also told the Madhya Pradesh government had sent a proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs who was looking for a separate budget for the elephant management program and the state participation in the elephant project.
The problem has been brought to the authority.
In December 2019, the BTR authority has asked the state government to frame the compensation policy for damaged properties by wild elephants to counteract conflict with humans.
The 40-elephant herd who has deviated from neighboring Chhattisgarh has given a difficult time for farmers by not only robbing their agriculture, but also take their rice sacks.
At present, there is no policy for property compensation in Madhya Pradesh, an official said.
These elephants have traveled a few kilometers to revive the very old corridors of Jharkhand to MP.
Elephants have moved to Chhattisgarh because of rampant deforestation in Odisha and Jharkhand and from there they shift to MP, officials said.
MP has a plan to declare the Sanjay National Park as an elephant habitat considering Jumbo threats in Siddhi and Singrauli districts, but failed to take off.
The area adopted by elephants in MP has rich vegetation, including bamboo shooting – elephant favorite food.
The conflict will increase if the steps are not taken, officials said.
