Chennai: Marking high speed on the highway, Madras High Court has canceled the central notification issued in 2018 which allows to increase the speed limit of the vehicle above the freeway from 100 km per hour to 120 km per hour, and the authority directs to reduce the speed limit Up to 80 km per hour.
According to the notification of August 5, 2014,.
Blame ‘overspeeding’ for most road accidents, the bench of the Justice Division N Kirubakan (since retirees) and Justice TV Thamilselvi refused to accept the holder taken by the United government that the speed limit was set by the Expert Committee considering increasing in better infrastructure and engine technology .
“When overspeeding is the main cause of accidents on the road, it is not known how to improve road infrastructure and machine technology will reduce the accident,” asked the bench.
In fact, better engine technology will always be an uncontrolled reason and therefore causes more accidents, the court added.
It is said that the authorities must use modern gadgets such as speed pistols, display of indications of speed and drone to find out the vehicles that drove and punish drivers.
“Violators of road traffic regulations must be punished strictly in accordance with the law.
Vehicles with high speed machines must be calibrated in such a way that the vehicle does not exceed the speed limit permitted,” said the court.
The court issued an order while increasing the compensation given to a female dentist who experienced 90% disability in an accident on the road and two children.
The court increased Rs 18.4 lakh provided by court to Rs 1.5 Crore.
In 2013, while the victim drove a two-wheeled vehicle on Jalan Kancheepuram, a MTC bus, which was pushed by a rash and negligent, hit him.
Discarding the request, the judges suggested that the government form a special court to handle traffic violations and cases of accident claims, so that criminal cases arising from accidents and claims arising from the same accident can be handled by a comprehensive court specially.
