Tuticorin: Nearly 20 tons’ red sander logs dust captured along with trucks where they are underground on the courtyard near Pudurpandiyapuram toll plaza in Madurai to Tuticorin National Highway at the end of Monday.
More than 150 wooden stems were confiscated by police led by the Police Supervisory Assistant (ASP) G Chandeesh based on a tip-off.
Lawned by the police, the Ministry of Forestry personnel examined wood and confirmed that they were of high quality and that the seizure value could be at least more than Rs 10 Crore.
The right quantity – long, wide and circumference – Need to be measured and the value cannot be ascertained as dark.
This will be measured on Tuesday morning.
Armed police personnel had been deployed to secure the log all night, ASP told TII.
He added that two special teams were looking for a truck owner G Rajesh from Millerpuram in Tuticorin and his accomplice J Rakesh from Polpettai in Tuticorin who had a page.
The preliminary question revealed that the log was smuggled from Andhra Pradesh to Tuticorin through Madurai a few weeks ago.
Because the log cannot be exported due to lack of favorable conditions, they are detained in Tuticorin.
“The truck along with the log to the Rakesh page attached to the spilled bar is close to the Pudurpandiyapuram Toll Plaza on December 25 and parked along with nearly 50 other trucks, most of which are in abandoned conditions,” Chandeesh said.
This page was very secured with a 10-foot high wall that was right with barbed cable above and turned out to be a safe place for the defendant to maintain a safe smuggling log.
The Ministry of Forestry’s personnel who checked the log stated that the soft sanders were removed by smugglers and only the core of the high value of the trees seized on the truck.
Efforts are being carried out to track the origin and the purpose of Sanders red.
The police cybercrime unit has also been pressed into the service to solve the network behind smuggling.
