Madurai grows medicinal plants in plastic bottles thrown away

Madurai: When plastic is known to have a global ecological impact, a man who gives water cans have done a little to make people aware of the towering dangers and why they should be thrown carefully.
K Ashok Kumar, BA graduates from Madurai, said he found that bottled water thrown to the side of the road and the open places were mostly garbage and decided to do something about it.
“Plastics are environmental hazards that are here to stay.
But we have to do a little and recycle as much as possible,” he said.
He collected bottle of empty water from the side of the road and filled it with some land.
Simultaneously, he also chooses herbs or medicinal plants that grow on the sidewalk and road and plan them in these bottles.
“ I maintain small plants for about fifteen days and when they build roots and show signs of growing, I give people who ask them for free, “he said.
He has found plants such as Oregano, Tulsi, Solanum Trilobatum, Veldt wine and other herbs.
About twenty people have come to the plants so far in one month when the word spread about the cause.
“I also gather greater puppies and grow it in cans, and plan to plant it near the body of the water, ” he said.
Among the plants he collected, there was a high request for Tulsi.
He only has one request to the people who took plants: replant them and send plastic bottles for the right recycling without throwing it in waste.
“This is a small step, but even if I collect only 30 bottles and reuse them, that means I deal with a small portion of environmental degradation, which gives I am a big pleasure, “he said.
Ashok Kumar also made a toy out of palmyra seeds and gave them to children with requests to parents to plant them on the edge of the road or close to water when their children were bored with toys.
