Madurai: A 21-year-old young man was arrested by city police on Wednesday to get married, raping and attacking a 16-year-old girl near Thiruppolokundram.
According to the police, the young man, identified as R Kumar, married the 16-year-old girl and then estimated it despite the fact that she was underage.
The young men also quarreled with the girl often when she was drunk, and on Tuesday she harassed and attacked the girl with a stone.
Based on complaints by victims, police Thirupparaknankundram registered a case against Kumar under various parts, including the Pocso Law and a ban on child marriage and arrested him.
In another incident, a case was registered by all the female police stations, Tallakulam, on Wednesday against a 24-year-old man for marrying a 17-year-old girl in September this year.
Meanwhile, in the case of the alleged murder case of a woman allegedly reported near Sedihatti in this district, according to the instructions of the Minister of Social Welfare and Women’s Empowerment P Geetha Jeevan, a special committee will be formed to prevent the murder of a baby girl, child marriage and ensure children’s protection .
Officials from 10 departments, including disaster revenues and management, police, social welfare, district child protection units, integrated child development scheme (ICDS), Deputy Director of Health Services, Dean of the Government of Rajaji Hospital, Director of Joint Health Services, and Madurai Childline – 1098 will be part of the Special Committee.
Special Committee will meet regularly and discuss the safety and protection of children.
This committee is to ensure that strict legal actions are taken in the murder of a baby girl, creating awareness and also work for the rehabilitation of saved children.
Anyone or any family who cannot care for children can surrender children at Rajaji Hospital and Primary Health Center under the Cradle Baby Scheme after that they will be treated according to the government protocol.
