San Franciso: The earthquake with the initial magnitude of 5.9 rocked the California-Nevada border on Thursday afternoon, with people who reported felt hundreds of miles away, according to the US Geological Survey.
There are no direct reports of damage or injury.
The earthquake hit 3:49 a.m.
In the area around 250 miles (402 kilometers) east of San Francisco and South Lake Tahoe.
The episyaris is 20 miles (32 kilometers) southwest of Smith Valley, Nevada.
It was followed by a dozen aftershocks, with at least one with magnitude 4.6, said USGS.
Sally Rosen, who has a popular burger restaurant in Walker, near Epicenter, said his 2-year-old son slept on his arm at his house behind the restaurant when the earthquake struck.
“ We feel the building shock, and we don’t know what it was at first, “he told KGo-TV in San Francisco.
“ It keeps running, and it’s quite intense and scary, frankly.
So we run out of the house as fast as possible and run to the restaurant because the first thought is, `Oh my goodness, we need to turn off the gas.
“He said a glass and other items flying from the shelf, and the oil lay from the frying pan.
The community around Lake Tahoe and as far as Southern as Fresno, California, felt an earthquake, which had a depth of 6 miles (9.8 kilometers).
US 395, the main route through the North Sierra Nevada, was closed due to stone slides, said the state transportation department.
Closure stretches around 40 miles (64 kilometers) from nearby Willow Springs to the Nevada border.
