Mumbai: In the last 48 hours, Maharashtra witnessed a heavy fall that led to situations such as floods and landslides in many places.
A total of 129 people had died in the incident related to rain, a senior official from the State Disaster Management Department said on Friday night.
This includes 38 deaths in landslides in a village in Raigad Raigad Mahad Tehsil on Thursday, he said.
“The death toll in Maharashtra in the last 48 hours has reached 129.
Most of the deaths come from Raigad and Satara districts,” the official said.
In addition to landslides, some people have been swept away.
The official placed the death toll in various incidents in Satara Western Maharashtra Regency at 27.
Other deaths including those reported from East Regency such as Gondia and Chandrapur, he said.
Landslides in the Raigad district took place near the Talas Village at Mahad Tehsil on Thursday night.
“Thirty-six bodies have recovered from the place so far,” said a senior police official earlier that day, added that the NDRF team and local officials were involved in rescue work.
Landslides also crashed into the village of Ambeghar and Mirgaon in Patan Tehsil Satara during Thursday night, burying a total of eight houses, said Ajay Kumar Bansal, police supervisor, Rural Satara.
But there was no death that had been confirmed in two incidents by local officials so far.
In addition, 10 people were feared to be trapped after landslides in the Ratnagiri coastal district.
