MAHA: 5 is held for bank dakoity; RS 2.2CR valuable items confiscated

Pune: District rural police on Friday claimed to have solved the armed Dakoitas RS2.8 Crore at the Bank Maharashtra branch in Shirur Taluka on October 21, after the arrest of five suspects, including three criminals on police records, and recovery properties worth RS2.2 Crore.
This includes RS18 Lakh cash and 7.3kg gold ornaments.
“The gang will attack October 20, but dropped the idea because of a gram Sabha meeting,” said Pune Rural.
Including suspects – Kingpin dollar alias Pravin Ovhal (29) from Khed, Ankur Pabale (24) from Junnar, Dhondiba Jadhav (29), Adinath Pathare (25) both of Parner in Ahmednagar and Vikas Gunjal Regency (20) from Shirur (20) .
On October 21, the gang armed with a gun had broken into the bank and robbed valuables worth RS2.8 Crore after threatening managers and cashiers.
They have used a sedan to escape with booty.
Then, they shifted to another car.
Deshmukh said 10 local police teams and crime branches were furnished for inquiry.
“Our team traces the car by checking CCTV camera footage until Ahmednagar MIDC.
We also got the name Gang Kingpin,” Dishmukh said.
The police got a tip-off that Ovhal had fled to Madhya Pradesh.
“When our team reached there, they knew Ohval had returned and was in Nighoj, Ahmednagar.
We put the trap and took him to detention.
He acknowledged his involvement in the robbery and also revealed the names of his four legs, who were detained,” he said.
Deshmukh said the suspects had hidden gold ornaments on a sugar cane farm in Nighoj.
Deshmukh said Ovhal and the other four suspects were friends.
Ovhal, Pabale and Jadhav have cases submitted against them with Pebed Pune police.
“Ohval has decided to rob a bank in Pimparkhed because it is on the border of Pune and Ahmednagar district and it is easy for them to escape.
The branch does not have a security guard, siren or even a hotline to contact the police,” he said.
Ovhal goes to MP and bought three stating-made pistols.
He borrowed a car from his acquaintances.
“He has changed the color and has arranged another car to divert the police probe,” Dishmukh said.
Deshmukh said the police recovered more than 90% of the spoiled booty.
“Gold ornaments robbed by suspects is mostly local farmers, who have obtained loans from banks by pawning,” Dishmukh said.
He said that the suspects wanted to spend ornaments in making cheerful.
The officer said that the police had not restored firearms and two cars used by the suspects, he said.
“Probe revealed that they had taken sedan cars to MP to change the color again,” Dishmukh said.
