Physical classes from STD 5 to 8 are likely to begin in Covid-free villages from August 16, said Minister of School Education Varsha Gaikwad on Friday.
Announcement came after the Congress met, arresting educational officials did not realize.
The school in the nine Division of the Education Council was opened for grade 8 to 12 from July 15.
Online schools throughout the country have been started from June 15.
Sources said Gaikwad had met Cm Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the reopening of schools from class 5 and also about the school in the city limits.
The final decision is expected after another meeting with CM next week.
The education officer said the worries were the reluctance of parents to send children to the classroom.
Data from the school opened in July showed only 10% of students attending offline classes in the Maharashtra countryside.
In the Mumbai Division, 24 schools in the Thane District and 108 schools in the Palghar district were reopened in July.
Only 0.3% of students in Thane and 2% in Palghar were present.
In the Mumbai district, there were no schools opened since last year.
