The number of coronavirus positive cases at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Ahmednagar Maharashtra Regency has risen to 51, which includes 48 students, a health official said on Sunday.
Their samples were sent for genome sequencing to find out if they carry the Omicron Coronavirus variant, another official said.
A few days ago, 19 students from a housing school at the Tehsil Parner had tested a positive viral infection.
The school has more than 400 students in all grade 5 to 12.

“So far, 51 people, including 48 students and three staff members, from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has tested the positive Coronavirus.

The Ahmednagar District collector Rajendra Bhosale said the school campus was declared a ‘detention zone’.
“I visited school today.
As a preventative step, we have mobilized the medical team consisting of doctors and two nurses to monitor other students on campus (if they develop any symptoms),” he said.
Samples of all 51 people are being sent for genome sequencing, add collectors.
Bhosale said some parents wanted to bring home their ward and they had been told the decision about this would be taken after students complete the quarantine period.
The school, part of the Navodaya Vidyalaya network that came under the Ministry of Education Union, is located in Takali Dhokeshwar Village in Ahmednagar District.
