Mumbai: Maharashtra Cyber on Thursday warns residents not to be a prey of fraudsters who deceive people using fake websites from famous financial institutions and banks, and offer loans.
During the pandemic period and locking Covid-19, the department has found that anti-social elements create fake websites, lure people with loan promises and then deceive them, said a Maharashtra Cyber official.
One such gang has asked people to fill out forms or contact them, and after gaining their confidence, fraudsters asked the victims to deposit some processing fees to clean the loan, and then calm them, the official said.
Because many cases such as it was revealed, the department had issued an advisor who asked people to verify logos and other details of financial institutions if they apply for online loans, he said.
People are also asked to visit the nearest bank branch before applying for loans to get the right information for their safety, and immediately contact the local police if they become victims of cyber fraud, added the official.
