Mumbai: Maharashtra now has 65 Delta-Plus cases confirmed in 17 districts, up from 45 cases until the beginning of this week, the health department said.
But Delta-Plus has been found in less than 1% of 8,000 strange samples sorted.
The dominant variant in the state is still delta, found at 80% of the sorted samples.
Delta-plus or variant ‘AY.1’ has mutated from the Delta variant which is highly transpacting (B.1.617.2) which was first isolated in India and now is the dominant variant world.
Delta-plus, even though it was feared very contagious because it mutated from Delta, it didn’t seem to spread quickly.
Delta is believed to have pushed the destructive second wave in this country.
Of the 65 Delta-Plus cases, Jalgaon had the highest (13), followed by Ratnagiri (12) and Mumbai (11).
Thane and Pune each have six cases while Palghar has three.
Nanded and Gondia each have two cases.
Chandrapur, Akola, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Nandurbar, Aurangabad, Kolhapur and Bed District have each.
The first batch of 21 Delta-Plus cases was detected in June from six districts.

Of the 65 cases, 33 were women and 32 men.
Most cases (33) were found in the age group 19-45, followed 17 among 46-60 years.
