Mumbai: The state has covered up half an estimated population of teenagers with a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine in the last 25 days.
Since the drive targets a population between 15-17 years starting on January 3, a total of 30.9lakh doses have been given to this group.
Country coverage below the national average of 59%.
Maharashtra is estimated to have 60.63 lakh people in this group.
Officials said 51% had taken a shot.
“Our target is to cover everyone from this group in February,” said Dr.
Sachin Desai, the state immunization officer.
He said with college and schools continue, the drive is expected to take steps.
Lately, the average daily vaccination figure for this group has dropped to 45,000-50,000 from almost lakh in the early days.
Among the districts, Pune (2,85,767) and Thane (2,53,977) have been given the highest dose followed by Mumbai (2,41,392), which only successfully scope 39% until now.
In comparison, districts such as Bhandara and Kolhapur have been closed 76% and 68% of teenagers already.
Suresh Kakani, BMC Additional Commissioner of the city, said Mumbai number will increase as a camp planned in schools and colleges.
“Our target is to cross 75% on the next ten days,” he said.
From the estimated 612lakh in the age group 15-17 years, 2.41 lakh had taken a shot.
Kakani said Mandals is also strappy in to attract the younger outpants.
Mumbai, unlike other districts, has a slow start.
District like Thane started camp on campus directly from the first day.
Dr.
Desai said some cases of side effects were seen in the group of teenagers.
“We have more than 15 times the dose and can easily speed up the drive,” he said.
The state, however, has not received fresh covaxin shares on the last ten days.
Desai said they hope that supply will arrive before they are close to tiring stocks.
