MAHA: Local agency polls to go ahead Sans OBC chairs

Mumbai: After the SC decision on Monday, the local agency poll is scheduled for 105 Nagar Panchayats and The Zilla Parishads in Bhandara and Gondia and Samitis Pancayat they are scheduled for December 21 will continue, except in the chair that has been provided for OBC.
“Polls will advance in the open category seat and provided for SCS and STS which will form around 75-80% of the total seats,” said the commissioner of the Madan State Election.
“For chairs that have been provided for OBC after the regulation, we will wait for the last SC verdict because this is a temporary command,” he added.
The next hearing is on December 13.
The permanent court on a 27% political reservation for OBC in the local agency poll after the regulation issued by the government in September has had a major setback to the ruling parties.
BJP Opposition accused the government “fooling” the OBC community and said it would not allow the local body selection to advance without quota.
“SC has requested empirical data on OBC to be collected.
Instead of ensuring this, the government issued a regulation that did not stick,” said BJP State Chandrakant Patil President.
Minister of Food and Civil Equipment Chhagan Bhujbal, which is included in the OBC community, said the government had tried the best.
“We asked for the empirical data center.
Then we set up a backup class commission to collect empirical data,” said Bhujbal.
The Minister of OBC affairs Vijay Wadettiwar said, “There is a conspiracy working against the OBC community to get a reservation.” In March, SC had canceled a 27% reservation for OBC in the Local Body of Maharashtra on the grounds that bookings, combined with them for SCS and STS, exceeded a 50% quota limit.
The OBC quota can only be permitted after empirical data on the community is collected and if the 50% quota limit is not crossed, SC has said.
In September, the state has issued a regulation that allows OBC quota in rural bodies with motorists who have been combined with SC and ST reservations, the combined quota will not pass a 50% limit.
Also, that the OBC quota will not cross 27% of the chair, according to the existing state legislation.
Ruling SC put aside procedures.
