Mumbai: Maharashtra is compiling a ‘vacation rental home’ policy, given the change of tourist preferences during a pandemic to stay in a comfortable place in places far away than hotel rooms, a senior official said.
This policy will help organize all trade homes, which will be approved after a visit from government officials and police, and help curbs the threat of unsuspecting tourists at stake, the main secretary (tourism) Valsa Nair Singh, said talking at an event organized by Chamber of Commerce and Industry IMC.
Singh said there was a great demand for houses such as in various parts of the country, where people preferred to stay in residences that had been built but were not used in places far away than in hotel rooms.
There are special platforms that have such properties listed, he added that there was a frightening example where fake applications had taken payments for non-existent properties found by tourists only on reaching the place.
“We are in the process of preparing this policy.
This will be a comprehensive policy, the place was examined, the police also examined before being given permission,” said Singh.
Singh said the tourism department planned to have a bay of caravan parking at the base of the historic Raigad fortress, where recreational vehicles can be parked by tourists.
Around a dozen entrepreneurs have advanced with plans in front of the caravan, he added that it would take up to two years to have a strong caravan tour culture in the state as seen in the West.
Maharashtra, who has a coastal 750 km, will have a beach hut in October, he added that there was a movement on the policy of beach shack published last year.
The site has been identified and the detailed plan is regulated, he said adding that the only lost aspect was the compliance of coastal zone maps that would open the hut so the summer ended.
He said the response to agro-tourism policies was far better than expected by the government and the government also made it mandatory for educational institutions to take a visit to these qualities.
Singh said there was a big demand for tourism and the focus of the country would take advantage of outbound tourists by giving them a choice in it.
The department has carried out campaigns on social media to market the country and will raise activities in a month, he said.
