Maha to seek central help to pay covid victims’ relatives

Pune: The state disaster management department that lacks money will seek financial assistance from the center to pay Ex Gratia to their relatives who die of Covid-19, said a senior official.
The National Disaster Management Authority has recommended that Rs 50,000 be given to their relatives who died of Covid-19.
This will also apply to those involved in operations or Covid-19 relief activities related to readiness to handle the pandemic.
In the state, the total amount must be disbursed, through the state disaster response fund (SRDF), appears to RS750 Crore.
The state will seek these funds from the Union Government, it was decided at the SRDF State Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday.
The main secretary (relief and rehabilitation) AEEM Gupta told the Toi that there had been 1.38 lakh deaths registered in the state; The amount can even cross 1.50 lakh.
“We have allocated funds for various other Covid-19 management steps and currently lacking money.
We ask NDMA to allocate funds for ex-Gratia payments because if not, we will find it difficult to take jobs related to pandemics and other disasters,” he said.
NDMA allocates RS4.200 in total to the state disaster management department.
From this, RS1,700 Crore is spent on Covid management, while the rest is intended to be used to overcome natural disasters.
An official said the amount allocated for Covid’s related work was almost run out, while the rest was used to deal with natural disasters in the state.
The source in the department said there had been a shortage and that RS750 Crore needed to pay relatives of Covid-19 victims would increase the burden.
Also at the meeting, the decentralization approach was decided for the complaints approach – the committee would be appointed under additional collectors in each district.
After the death certificate is issued, the family concerned can submit a form that will be issued by the government in public facilitation centers or environmental offices, as will be determined by local authorities, officials said.
District Disaster Management Authorities must ensure that the claim process, verification, sanctions, and disbursement are simple, strong, and friendly people.
