Aurangabad: Ten people died in heavy rain and floods in the Maharashtra Marathwada area for the past 48 hours, officials said on Tuesday.
In addition, more than 200 livestock was washed and a number of houses were also damaged in the dock in the region, which consisted of eight districts – Aurangabad, Latur, Osmanabad, Parbhani, Nanded, Beed, Jalna and Hingoli.
Excessive rainfall (more than 65 mm) was recorded in more than 180 groups falling under eight of these districts, release issued by the Division’s commissioner office.
The heavy bath forced the authorities to open the gate of various dams for the water discharge, which caused flooding in the villages located on the banks of the River Manjara in Bed and Latur District.
In the last 48 hours, 10 deaths were reported from six districts in the region, including three in BED, each of which two in Osmanabad and Parbhani, and one in Jalna, Nanded and the latch, said release.
There were no casualties reported in Aurangabad and Hingoli until Tuesday afternoon, said an official.
A total of 205 animals, including 60 large animals, were washed away in heavy rain for the past two days, the release said.
In addition, 28 houses, including 25 Kutcha (straw), were also damaged due to heavy rains in the region.
Among the damaged houses, 11 is located in Aurangabad, 12 in Beed and Lima in Jalna, said an official.
The entire Marathwada region has been tied by heavy rain triggering flooding in many areas with rivers in full fragments, officials said.
Heavy rain and floods have damaged plants in several hectares of agricultural land in the region, they said.
“Since yesterday, the Department of Water Resources has monitored the situation carefully.
We tried to minimize damage,” Minister of Water Resources Jayant Patil told reporters in Beed.
Administration will provide all possible assistance to people, he said.
