Thane: Police in Thana Maharashtra Regency has arrested a man for allegedly having 7,000 kg of beef worth Rs 8.40 Lakh, an official said on Tuesday.
Acting on the tip-off, police personnel Bhiwandi Taluka and an animal welfare officer intercepted Tempo in Mumbai-Nashik Highway early on Monday, the official said.
When checking the vehicle, the police recovered 7,000 kg of beef worth RS 8.40 Lakh, which was being transported from Malegaon to Govandi in neighboring Mumbai, he said.
The police arrested a tempo driver Vasim Rahim Rangrej, and violations based on part 429 (damage to killing, injuring livestock) and other relevant provisions from IPC, MV Law and Maharashtra animal welfare laws have been registered, the official said, added that further investigation is ongoing.
